3-story fire station completed in 1858. It is clad in orange brick above a bright red-painted cast-iron ground floor that was added in 1893. There is a garage door in the middle, with a pedestrian entrance on the left, both framed by paneled pilasters. The ground floor is topped by a dentiled cornice. The upper floors have three bays of windows, with flat stone sills and rough-faced stone lintels. The facade is crowned by a black metal roof cornice with brackets, panels and modillions. A flagpole is mounted at the 2nd floor, between the tops of the western two windows.

Though built by the City, the building would have originally housed a volunteer fire company - the paid Metropolitan Fire Department wasn't created until 1865. That year, Engine Company 26 came into being - the company still using the firehouse.
