The first flights to this new airport were in summer 2011. The satellite images of this area are very out of date, but there are many images on the internet of the new buildings at the airport. The Delta government website gives these facts:
FACTS ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Airport terminal building has a total area of approximately 3,600 sq. meters and is built to accommodate airlines’ administrative buildings, and departure and arrival lounges
The airport is equipped with three Avio Bridges (i.e. six fingers), and a state-of-the art control tower
The runway is 3.4km long and can conveniently accommodate a Boeing-747 aircraft
Four state-of-the-art Fire Tenders are operational at the Airport, each costing about $1m; while two more are expected to be purchased soon.
The entire Airport Project cost the Delta State Government about N17.5bn

The Asaba Airport is located between Okpanam and Ibusa. When the airport is fully completed, airplanes and its major buildings will be very visible from the Asaba-Benin highway. It will be the second airport in Delta State, the fourth international airport in the South-South. The apron of the airport covers a land space of 45,000 square metres, which means it will accommodate up to ten active Boeing 747’s (the second largest aircraft ever built) at a time. The runway was initially 3 kilometres long, but is being extended to 3.4 kilometres, the standard size for runways of international airports.
