42nd Street Restaurant and Pizza

4-story residential/commercial building originally completed in the late 1800s as a tenement. Since 1965 it has housed the 42nd Street Restaurant and Pizza on the ground floor, with three apartments on the upper floors. The owner of the restaurant bought the building (where he also lives) in 1980, and declined to sell when the developers of the large Atelier condominium tower next door wanted to buy the property. The 3-bay facade is faced in white smooth stucco, with blue-painted stone window sills and lintels, and a blue metal fire escape. The ground floor has a central restaurant entrance, with a large plate-glass window to the right, and a round-arched gated entrance to the upper floors on the left. The west elevation is faced in parged brick, painted white with two vertical bands of blue.
