In 1957, the first expedition team from Japan went to Antarctica, 20 Sakhalin husky dogs were sent along with the team for the purpose of transporting supplies. Sadly, due to severe weather in Antarctica, 15 dogs could not be evacuated the next year and were left in Antarctica. The following year when the expedition team went back to Antarctica, they found Taro and Jiro, two of the dogs. They had miraculously survived the storm and were alive and well.
