 office building, interesting place

319-foot, 26-story International-style office building completed in 1970. Designed by Emery Roth & Sons for the William Kaufman Organization, it is clad in a curtain wall of stainless steel and glass. Rectangular in plan, the two longer facades are divided into six bays of six window panes each, while the two shorter facades have four bays. The bottom two floors are deeply recessed (the 2nd floor not quite as far) on steel columns, creating an open plaza area, with an array of interesting elements, including honey locust trees, streams, foot bridges and a wood-framed, turn-of-the-century-style candy store. Halfway up the facade, a double-height mechanical floor with narrow horizontal spandrels divides the building into upper and lower halves. Renovations were made in 2008 by Gensler.

The most interesting curiosity, though, is on the roof - a replica of a WWI British biplane (on a green runway with the number 77), installed by crane when the building was completed. There is also a replica vintage candy store in the lobby.
