"Nolon Castle", a.k.a. the Johnny Nolon house. Historic mansion in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, Now an apartment building.

Originally known as "The Towers".

Built in 1888, originally for Newton Lumber Company owner James E. Newton. Purchased circa 1900 by Johnny Nolon, who owned a number of saloons in Manitou Springs and Cripple Creek.

In 1935 it became the "Cañon Hotel". It was later known as the "Stonehaven Apartments".

A statue of a buffalo carved out of sandstone once stood on the lawn outside the house. It had previously adorned Nolon's Buffalo Saloon at the corner of Manitou Avenue and Ruxton Avenue, and reportedly remained here until 1975, when another attempt to move it resulted in its destruction.

  • This house burned one night in 1975. I believe that it was after the fire that the buffalo statue was lost.
