USS O'Bannon (DD-987) (Atlantic Beach)

Commissioned into US Navy service in 1979, USS O'Bannon was the 25th member of the Spruance Class of Destroyers and served her entire life with the US Atlantic Fleet, based out of Charleston SC, and Mayport, FL.

When she decommissioned in 2005, she was the last member of her class still in operation with the US Navy and was slated for sale to the Turkish Navy, however this never materialized and the USS O'Bannon was sunk as a target off the Virginia coast on October 6th, 2008 by the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower battle group.
