Timber Lake, South Dakota is a small community in Dewey County, South Dakota, known for its pheasant hunting, ranching, and farming. It is located between two major Indian reservations, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. The population was 443 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Dewey County. It was served by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad from 1910 until 1980.
