Zhytomyr Dairy Factory was founded in 1981. By 1976 on its territory there was a Zhytomyr meat-packing plant. From 1976 to 1981 a comprehensive reconstruction of the premises took place. Beginning in 1981, shops for the production of animal oils, skimmed milk powder, ice cream were gradually put into operation. In 1996, the Zhytomyr Butter Plant, through privatization, turned into OJSC Zhytomyr Butter Factory.
From April 1, 1998, OJSC Zhytomyr Butter Plant began to produce products under the trademark "Rud" - this decision was made at the general meeting of the labor collective, in honor of its leader, his knowledge and organizational skills.
