"Beacon Towers" Gate House (Sands Point, New York)

USA / New York / Sands Point / Sands Point, New York
residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, residential garage, outbuilding

The gatehouse to Beacon Towers, built for Alva Erskine Belmont (Alva (nee Smith) Vanderbilt) by Richard Howland Hunt c.1917-18. It served as the carriage house, and has a lookout tower, with tolling clock. The main home was demolished in 1945, not even 30 years after it was built, but the gatehouse remains. The west wing was a separate home formerly located just west of the Carriage House on the sound, and moved in the early 2000's as an addition to it when the new mansion on the point was being built.

Alterations were made in 2021 by FGS Architecture - Interior Design.
