  • I have never seen that how beautiful or how nice vidyasagar(karmatar) is but still I can say that it's a lovely place because or the lovely peoples ....in vidyasagar(karmatar)..
  • Considering the hardship faced by the students of the belt comprising Karmatar , Narayanpur and Karon blocks , a degree commerce / science college should be set up at Karmatar. Tourism Department of Jharkhand Govt / Railways, should provide accomodation for the visitors / tourists.
  • 'Vidyasagar Mela', dedicated to spreading education and increasing social awareness,is being held anually in Kolkata & Birsingha. The Bengali Associations of Bihar and Jharkhand should step in to hold this fair simultaneously at Karmatar also.I feel,it will be a boon to local people and a great service to Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.
  • Jharkhand Tourism Department should take initiative to develop Sikatiya Barrage(Ajoy Barrage)site near Karmatar , as a picnic spot .
  • There is no dependable direct train from Vidyasagar to Howrah / Kolkata. Long distance trains are most of the time very late.Railways should consider the inconvenience caused, particularly to children and elderly passengers and provide stoppage to at least Patna - Howrah Janasatabdi Express. These stations lack amenities, the upper class passengers are entitled. At present they have to reach Jamtara by a crowded EMU local for this train and wait for about 1 1/2 hours.Porters are rarely seen at these stations.
  • The very first Adventist English School in India was started at Karmatar in the year 1898 by three missionary families , who traveled from Andrews university in United States to India .
  • Congratulations to Indian Railways for re-naming Karmatar Railway Station as 'Vidyasagar'in the memory of the great educator, humanist and social reformer Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, who spent last 18 years of his life here serving the poor and illclad Santhals.Considering the status of this great leader, the Station should have been simultaneously upgraded and maintained as a 'Model Station' to enhance his popularity.I wish Railways does it even now.
  • Water of this place is absolutely incredible in terms of miraculous digestive properties. Many Anglo - Indian & Bengali families found this destination suitable for change. They built pretty bungalows here for their comfortable living.Every bungalow with large compound had a sort of orchard with guava, mango and custard - apple.Roses grew easily.Unfortunately, many of these bungalows have fallen in to disuse.
  • I am part of this school.I came here 5 years ago. At that time I only saw this type of backward place in TV but it was the time to see them live.I disliked the place but liked the atitude of students. Actually they helped me to be a teacher.Someday I have to leave this place butI will keep the memories of vidyasagar forever
  • Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar spent last eighteen years of his life at Karmatar. One day ,a Bengali gentleman was in search of a coolie at the Railway Station ,to carry his bag. Vidyasagar Mahashay happened to be there. He picked his bag up and carried it to his house, but did not accept any wages. Some people said among themselves, 'Good heavens! It is Vidyasagar Mahashay.'Vidyasagar only said softly to the visitor,'You should have carried the bag yourself this far --without a coolie. It was because of the adverse circumstances through which he had to pass that Vidyasagar's character became so brilliant and he was ever so generously helpful to others in adversity.
  • My passion ,my obsession is this place.I know this place just as the back of my hand.My childhood days here passed and the memories are unforgetable.Still we have our own house here which makes me nostalgic. The simple lifestyle here haunts me very much.I wish to pass my retired life here only

  • Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar came here on 1873, and purchased about 3 Acres of land near the karmatar railway station, now renamed 'Vidyasagar', he built a house and named it 'Nandan Kanan' setting up a school for the girls and ran a night school for the adults there from. He also built and ran a homeopathic dispensary. We are at preset just 21st century human civilization developed but still in our and in other countries we are facing crisis in which women’s position till need to more development security prestige freedom all other fundamental rights ........ Modern Indian history started with a movement led by Raja Rammohan Roy, who protested again Sati Pratha system. After that, Pandit Iswar chandra Vidyasagar started a movement for remarriage of Hindu widows. And really it was totally impossible but he did it . Yet we could not able to pass the reservation bill in the parliament, till we can not protect women’s right , cases like Delhi gang rape will keep shocking us . Vidyasagar fought for women’s, he tried uplift them........... The nandan kanan campus is the heritage of the great soul, if we like to change society then we should maintain the nandan kanan , please come and join hands and make contributions
  • I am from Karmatar settled in Kolkata since 1965. May I request you to share details of Moore family , their relatives / friends . My mobile no is 094330 61799. Wendy Firth in Newcastle , Australia needs these details for her research on Thomas Moore & his Indian wife Elizabeth Moore who lived & died at Karmatar.
  • Wendy Firth in Newcastle , Australia is researching on Thomas Moore of Karmatar. According to informations shared by her , Thomas Moore was a P.W.I in East Indian Railway between 1882 to 1892 .Elizabeth Moore was his Indian wife . Elizabeth was the daughter of Sook Ram Singh & born in Chattar , Sonepur , Bihar , India . Her birth year was probably 1860 or 1861. Methodist Thomas Moore from Halifox Nova Scotia's marriage with Elizabeth , found recorded in Somerset House in England. Thomas died in 1904 at the age of 74, Elizabeth in 1924 at the age of 64. They were burried side by side in the family cementery in Karmatar. Australian son of Thomas Moore , possibly Robert Moore visited Karmatar around 1905 , after Thomas died , to claim part of his father’s estate at Karmatar. To my information , only one Moore family lived at Karmatar and I feel that Ronnie Moore ,Calcutta Police Commissioner, born in Karmatar , belonged to this family. Gulab Rai Gutgutia High School is running from part of the Moore Estate for more than 40 years. Wendy Firth had the following queries. 1. Whether Elizabeth , the widow, looked after a Mission before her marriage to Thomas Moore ? 2. Any Methodist Mission existed around Karmatar during 1900 – 1925. Your feed back about Ronnie Moore / his family members / relatives / friends etc may be helpful to Wendy Firth in her research.
  • E mail ID of Wendy Firth as reported is < wenda57@gmail.com>. Details about Thomas Moore , Ronnie Moore , his friends / relatives / Elizabeth Moore may please be communicated to Wendy Firth directly or to me for onward transmission to her.
