It is an ancient temple built by Chola Kings. After the demise of the Chola kingdom this temple has been abandoned and buried under beach sand dunes for many centuries. After so many centuries past once again the temple discovered by the local people when they found it's Kalasam emerged out of the sand dunes due to beach sand erosion and they have started to devote by making a small way to the sanctum even though the temple still under sand dunes. Recently the temple have been excavated fully from the sand and rejuvenated to its old glory.

This Temple is situated five kilometers east from Kattur Village near Minjur and just 500 meter west from the bay of bengal. Main God in this temple is Lord Shiva known as Chinthamaneeswarar.One of the famous festival is chithra pournami will be celebrated every year in the Tamil month of Chithirai (English month of April)lasts continuously for ten days. Devotees from across the local areas carry out pilgrimage to offer their penance on festival days. Various cultural Programs will also be conducted in ten day long festive season.

  • I have been to this temple thrice but temple was locked. can any one tel me the timings
  • Only one kaala pooja is undertaken here at this temple (from 9AM -12Noon). Temple is open in the afternoon on Pradhosha days though.
