The monument was built with funds progressive intellectuals and residents. The bust of the poet's bronze figure mounted on a high granite pedestal. Sculptor H.Oleshkevich made free layout. The factory Weinstein Layout sculptor was cast bronze bust of the poet. The architect of the project was Betakam MV Because the layout and sketch of the monument were made free, and the pedestal was donated to the city, the construction took only 600 rubles instead of 6,000 planned. Inauguration of the monument took place on May 26, 1899 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin.

      The German invaders overthrew the bust of the poet, destroyed the monument. Patriots-hidden underground as a way bust and relic preserved for future generations.
