golf course, tennis court(s), country club

A country club straddling the Baltimore City/County line. Some of the oldest families in Baltimore belong here. It was founded in 1878 as a fox-hunting club, but due to urban expansion it moved its hunting grounds to the more rual Monkton area, and now uses the property on North Charles Street for its regulation 18 hole golf course, clay tennis courts, pool facility, and platform tennis (paddle) courts. The famous clubhouse is the host of many high society events, and dance classes taught there during the year are fought over.
