John Aaron Rawlins (1831–1869) was an American Civil War General and U.S. Secretary of War. This statue memorializing him was cast in bronze from a sculpture by Joseph Alexis Bailly and installed in 1872. It is one of 18 sites collectively listed on the National Register of Historic Places as "Civil War Monuments in Washington, D.C."
