  • Löwendal Foundation is promoting the arts! Baron George Löwendal passed on to daughters Lydia and Irina, apart from paintings and drawings, an impressive archive containing photographs, documents and manuscripts. His niece, Ariadna Avram, Irina’s daughter, worked hard to preserve the legacy of this exceptional artist, starting with the purchase of the building in central Bucharest – the Neo-Romanian villa designed by Petre Antonescu – which is now home to the “Löwendal Cultural Foundation” (inaugurated on May 10, 2010). Beside its principal mission – reviving Löwendal’s work and defining his place within the Romanian and European art currents in the first half of the twentieth century – the Löwendal Foundation aims to support and encourage national contemporary art. To this end, the Foundation initiated a contest for young scenographers (a unique undertaking in Romania), hosted exhibitions, debates, launches of books and magazines, thus becoming after only a year of existence a benchmark of Bucharest’s cultural scene.
