Green-Colorado Confluence

Joining of the two rivers, the Green River (from the N West) and the Colorado River (from the N East, and formerly called the Grand River above the confluence). You can hike to view this from the east side, in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park.

"Late in the afternoon, the water becomes swift, and or boats make great speed. An hour of this rapid running brings us to the junction of the Grand and Green, the foot of Stillwater CaƱon, as we have named it.

These streams unite in solemn depths, more than one thousand two hundred feet below the general surface of the country..."

John Wesley Powell, explorer (1869)

My number 1 top destination. I learn that from "Needles District/Region" there is 4x4 trucks (4 wheel drive, high clearance cars) dirt off-road that takes tourists/hikers near to a point where hiking trails start towards (some more miles) the confluence of Green-Colorado rivers. It is said off road is very rough even for 4x4 trucks/suvs alike and the human hiking trail is even rougher to go near to the site of the confluence of Colorado and Green rivers. Rangers of Canyonlands National Park tells me that the best view of the "Green-Colorado Confluence" will be from the THE MAZE region/section. The fact is THE MAZE (my favorite challenging region) is the most inaccessible and hardest region of all 3 regions. The challenging terrain of THE MAZE is so great that even to this day it is STILL mostly an unknown territory of the Canyonlands National Park. To me this entire "Colorado Plateau" (Utah + Colorado + Arizona + New Mexico States junction) is more interesting and grandeur than Grand Canyon making one of the top ten natural wonders of the world....................Lynways.
