Walter Library and Digital Technology Center (Minneapolis, Minnesota)

 university, office building, library

Science and Engineering Library, Education/Psychology Library, and IT Administration.

From 1924 until 1968 this building served as the University of Minnesota's main library. In 1968, the main collection moved to the newly constructed Wilson Library on the West Bank. Walter, however, remained a large secondary library until 1999 when a massive renovation ($53.6 million) changed the building into what it is today. It's also the site of the largest public computer lab within the U of M system (120+ computers).

Although the expensive renovation was designed to preserve the architectural grandeur of the facility, much of its charm was lost when the building's core, the 12-floor steel cage stacks, was gutted and replaced with office space on the upper floors.
