The occurrence of sandstone rock balls on this site was discovered in 1988 by the extraction of stone in a quarry Padyšák. Location Megoňky forms together with the nearby village Klokočov continuous belt with the occurrence of stone balls. These are not the largest site of stone balls in Europe. Regular spherical objects can be seen directly in the rock walls of the quarry and its surroundings. Initially, they contain about 30 balls with a diameter of 25 to 300 cm. Many of them have been directly in the quarry, were then transported to various places (Lesostav Oščadnica - Nižný koniec, Považské múzeum - exhibition of natural Krasňany) and one is equipped with the partner Čadca - in Torun, Poland. The biggest and dominant stone sphere with a diameter of 3 m is now located in the quarry. The body of a sphere is formed coarse conglomerates with pebbles up to 2-4 cm, surface of the sphere is made up of fine-grained finish. The sphere is divided into an ideal cut and two cuts. According to geologists, the ball could arise ”and turning the tension in the rock,“ according to other experts to the spherical collapse of rocks. Material from which the balls are composed according to the density tables around 2 tons. After the conversion is based on weight of the largest of them 25 to 30 tons! It is now protected territory 5th highest degree of protection.
