The Louvre Museum (Musée du Louvre or Le Louvre) is the largest museum in Paris by its surface: 210 000 square metres of which 60 600 devoted to exhibitions. It is one of the oldest in the world, and the third in terms of area. The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world, with 8.3 million visitors in 2006.
The building is a former royal palace, the Palais du Louvre.
