The south part of McNabb-Walter was acquired in 1982. The preserve now totals 195 acres.

14.32 acres have been dedicated through Indiana Department of Natural Resources' Division of Nature Preserves.

This preserve protects a picturesque south, high bank of the St. Joe River, the ravines of Davis Creek, and an old growth maple woods still showing remnants of a sugar camp used over many generations. The woods has towering trees - sugar maple, tulip, red and white oak, beech, ash and sycamore. Spring brings a carpet of wildflowers.
