The former Indiana Women’s Prison was established in 1873 as the first adult female correctional facility in the U.S. In 2009, the Women's Prison moved to its current location on the west side of Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Re-entry Educational Facility was opened at this location and was active until its closure in 2017.
