Spadina Crescent Bridge (Saskatoon)

Canada / Saskatchewan / Saskatoon
 heritage, bridge

This is Saskatoon's smallest bridge, often overlooked by motorists. It replaced an earlier wooden structure; small ponds were dug in a ravine as part of a Depression-era relief project to beautify the adjacent park (once called "Central Park"). The pond system was extended in the 1950s but has since been filled in. Today the remaining ravine serves as an outlet for storm water.

It is classified as a single arch, closed-spandrel deck bridge. It was constructed in 1930 by Saskatoon Contracting Co., owned by Leon and Paul Precesky. This heritage structure is in need of restoration. It was repaired recently as outlined in the city's 2004 capital budget.
