square, historical layer / disappeared object
Originally built by British Rail in 1972 as a "temporary measure" for congestion. A new concourse to the west was opened in 2012 to deal with larger crowds. The 1972 concourse will now be demolished and turned into a pedestrian plaza to reveal Lewis Cubitt's original frontage. The concourse remains partly open during works with some shops as an exit-only route for the station.
