An officially designated conservation area, covering 395.4ha (976.9 acres), covering much of the affluent suburb of Edgbaston. It was designated on 4th September 1975, and then further extended on 13th December 1984, 17th September 1992 and 10th October 1992. Parts of the conservation area are covered by Article 4 (2) Direction, giving stricter regulations as to what can be changed so to protect the character of the area.
