Hawkhead Cemetery opened on the 13th April 1891, and covers 23 acres of ground. There is a memorial to the 70 children who were crushed to death at Paisley's Glen Cinema in December 1929. There is also a memorial to the 92 people who died on the night of 7th May 1941, when a parachute mine hit a First Aid post in Paisley. Many of the dead were buried in a mass grave at the cemetery."To the memory of the civilians and personnel of Paisley First Air Post No. 5 (west) who died in the course of their duty May 1941
