Anantpur (Ranchi)

The actual name of this place is "ANANDPUR"..named after a famous and very respected person Mr. Anand Dhan.

A WONDERFUL PLACE TO LIVE IN.

The original name of this very old pre-dominantly Bengali neighbourhood in Ranchi was ANANT-A-PUR (ANANTAPUR). Most of the land here was owned by the Baul's, they also owned a hotel named 'Hotel Midland' (is it still there?). The famous Sanyal brothers used to stay here - one had become the Controller of Examinations, Ranchi Univ. and two others played Ranji Trophy for Bihar & Bengal. There used to be a big field here where the Gymkhana Club played cricket and in those days there used to be 6-7 players from this club in the Bihar Ranji team. Every alternate year Durga puja used to be celebrated here (the other year it was in adjacent Nibaranpur).
