Over the gate Church of the Transfiguration (Moscow)

Russia / Moscow / Moscow / Novodevichy proyezd
church, gate, listed building / architectural heritage, 17th century construction

Its five domes on tall drums topped with faceted, gilded cupola and lacy crosses atop crescent moons plus the rows of tall windows with Baroque platbands, decorative moldings, give an impression of great height. Note the interesting scallop-shell zakomari, or rounded gables that reflect the interior vaults often supporting the cupola. These recall the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael in the Kremlin.

Built in 1687-1689
