Vaikam is situated on the North-Western side of Kottayam district and shares its border with Vembanattu Kayal (lake). It is the oldest township in Keralam - nay in India. A great Sanskrit Scholar Sri. Vatakkumkoor Rajaraja Varma Raja lived here. He was a diciple of Great Poet Sri Uloor S Parameswara Iyer. He was hourned by the title " Kavithilakan" by Travancore Maharaja. His Most Famous work was " KERALIYA SAMSKRITHA SAHITHYA CHARITHRAM". he has written so many other books like UTHARA BHARATHAM, RAGHAVABHYUDAYAM and KERALA SAHITHYA CHARITHRATHINTE CHARCHAYUM POORANAVUM 2parts. He was a member of Kerala Sahithya Acadamy.
Malayalam auther Vikam Muhammad Basheer and film actor Mammutty hail from vaikom.

vaikom is famous for sri sathyasai sangeetholsavam, an annual musical festival by sri sathys sai seva samithy vaikom, every year the music festival starts from 18th November and end with jhoola a special music feast on 23rd November evening. sai samithy mandiram situates southern side of vaikom mahadevar temple. a free midical camp, regular bhajans, educational classes ere also conducted there. |
