Canungra is the Australian Army's jungle warfare school.
This area was chosen for a training base in 1942 due to the similarity of terrain to that of many South East Asian and South Pacific combat areas.
Closed in 1945, it was reopened in the 1950's as threats in South East Asia, especially the communist insurgency in Malaya.
The base area is called Kokoda Barracks: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kokoda_Barracks
