How to get to Hotel Parco Torre Chia
The southern coast of Sardinia is one of the most evocative areas of the entire island. It is characterized by steep cliffs, small coves and sandy beaches. The area's natural beauty is revealed by both its coastline and the Sulcis, Sardinia's southernmost mountain range.
There is an archaeological site at the nearby city of Nora, the ancient Punic colony that later came under the Romans. It was abandoned around the year 1000 due to pirate raids. Excavations at Nora brought many sculptures, ceramic works, coins and other items to the light that are preserved at the G. Patroni Archaeological Museum in Pula whereas at the archaeological site, a small amphitheatre (which is still in use for theatre productions), remnants of dwellings, temples and mosaics are still visible along with the thermal baths. It is commonly accepted that most of the ancient city is now underwater and that all of Nora's secrets are yet to be revealed.
The southern part of the island combines traditional farming with a remarkable cultural heritage and a more recent development of the tourism industry. The area offers a coastline characterized by powdery white sand and crystal clear waters. The nearby village of Is Molas is also home to the internationally renowned golf course of the same name.
There is a preference for meat in southern Sardinian cuisine, although more recently fish has also found its way to the table of the Sardinians – even in areas where there is no fishing. Meat is usually roasted: goat, lamb and piglets are the mainstays of Sardinian cuisine. Bottarga, a delicacy made of cured roe pouch of mullet or tuna, is an important product of the sea: it can be eaten in thin slices immersed in olive oil or it can be grated over pasta dishes with oil and garlic. The southern part of Sardinia is sunny and breezy. Wines produced in this area include excellent dessert wines, elegant DOC wines (Malvasia and Girò, Moscato and Nasco), the white Nuragus and red Monica and Carignano del Sulcis.
