This bridge carries the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail over Four Mile Run near Bluemont Junction. The abutments of a W&OD railroad bridge constructed around 1858 help support the present trail bridge. The Georgetown and Alexandria branches of the W&OD Railroad converged at the Junction 30 yards southeast of the bridge.
