Established in 1884 this one of the premier institutions of allahabad. Boasts of an extremely distinguished set of aluminis which have made their presence felt in fields as diverse as Politics, army, engineering and medical.
A Battle Tank standing in the precincts of this institution(gifted by one of the aluminis)bears testimony to its grandeur and lasting impression on the minds of the Students. Spent some of the most beautiful days of my life here

As I was looking for a place in Wikimapia, I stumbled upon my alma mater. What a pleasure. I passed out in 1988 having joined in 1977. Phew! that was a long time spent in there. Yeah, those escapades with Prateek, Rizwan, Gaurav Goel (now a big time educationist/coachingwala), piyush sinha, amber chandra, shudhanshu shekar singh, sharad jain, Neeraj Pant, Dubey etc and the sbiquitous samosas and bread pokoras of roshan... and the likes of bulldog (excuse me, he was the princi)), dimri, keshto (the physics teacher--name forgotten), RP, Shivaji, Wilson, Rai, Amrita, mrs daniel, mr wright and of course the BIG MR KAZMI and all those whom i have missed out...made it the place to be.
I was lucky to be there...

Excuse me... But there is a slight error in reporting this place. SJC was established in 1884, not 1886 as mentioned here.
I was in Std I in 1984 when SJC had its Centenary Celebration on Sports' Day on November 3rd. The then Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi was supposed to attend it and the preparations were HUGE. Alas!! it was not to be and she was assassinated days before her visit here. Sports day was anyway organized but not "celebrated"...
Long Live Josephites... |

I was at SJC from 1983-1988. At the time, the strict routines and the ever present threat of corporal punishment seemed too much to bear, but some of the hardships endured there have stood Josephites in good stead later in life.
Just wanted to add to the list of teachers who really made a mark. Foremost was Mr John D Raphael, my class teacher in Class IX and X, who was the least inclined to punishments, but got his point across with his wit. I also look back with fondness on Mr Owen Wright (rumoured to be a cousin of John Wright, who was playing for NZ then !). Among the stylish set were Mr McGowan on his Yezdi Roadking, and Ms Mohini Gupta who would be found chatting up Mr Wilson after every assembly, and even our principal before the Bulldog, who could hardly be recognised in the evenings, crusing through Civil Lines on his mobike. He also provided the only scandal in my time there, decamping with Ms D'Cruz and giving up the priesthood :)
The real fixture though was Bansi, who would go out and ring the bell, marking the end of classes/school and opening the door to the 25p ice-creams and churans outside.

could any one give an update on Fr. Rego. He was our class teacher in 1963 & 1964. He wrote his books during that period. In the grammar book he has used the first name of all the students. By the way who is being referred to as Bulldog by Abhisekh. |
