Aq Saray is an old settlement near the mouth of the Rod-i Qunduz / Sorkhab (Kunduz river) into the Amu Darja.
It's almost exclusively inhabited by Turkmens.

Aq Saray is now officially known by the Farsi name Qalay-i Zal, which means "White Castle" or "White Court", just like Aq Saray in Turkmen. The renaming likely dates back to the 1963 restructuring of administrative districts and provinces to remove ethnic identities from these names. During this reform, the Qataghan provinve was split into three parts, one of them the Kunduz province. The old regional identity for the Qataghan region has started to decline since.

It's the center of Qalay-i Zal District.

Alternative spelling: Aq Sarai, Aq Seray, Aq Serai, Qalay-I-Zal, Qalayi Zal, Qalay-e Zal, Qala-i Zal, Qala-e Zal.
