This area contains many old mines, which were used by old prospectors to look for gold, silver, etc. many years ago.
This area is also the escape route used by the Apache Chief Geronimo when fleeing from the US Cavalry in the 1800's. When the Cavalry was chasing Geronimo and his warriors, they would cross into Mexico, where the Cavalry could not chase them any further. Growing up in Douglas, my friends and I would go here and scout around for artifacts... we would find arrowheads, grinding stones, Army uniform buttons, etc. I'm sure there are till many historic artifacts laying around
