Designed in 1900 by noted San Diego architect, Irving Gill, this was the home of Waldo Sprague and Hazel Waterman. Waldo's father, Robert was Governor of California. Hazel was San Diego's first architect. Their son, Waldo Dean Waterman was a member of the Early Birds of Aviation, having soloed in a home made glider in 1909 at the age of 16. He later founded the Waterman Aircraft Manufacturing Company and built the world's first successful flying car.
