New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is a port city located near the mouth of the Mississippi River, founded by the French in 1718. New Orleans is known for its multicultural heritage as well as its music and cuisine. It is considered the birthplace of jazz. Its status as a world-famous tourist destination is due in part to its architecture, music, cuisine, its annual Mardi Gras, and other celebrations and festivals. It has been called the "most unique city in America". It is also notable for being below sea level, which led to catastrophic flooding in 2005 with Hurricane Katrina.

The Greater New Orleans population is approximately 1.4 million people. Within the city limits of New Orleans itself, the population is 344,000 (as of the 2010 census), down 30% due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.

New Orleans is coterminous with Orleans County.

  • It's really ashame that they had to leave this amazing city. They were smart not to stay, but New Orleans is a great city that has everything. I really wish it would get back to normal or even better. They seem to be progressing, but the east side doesn't seem that great at all.
