Greater (Großer) Animal-garden (Tier-garten) is a historic royal hunting ground that now a public park which has many statues of animals in it. Tiergarten is a locality in the centre of Berlin. It has long winding pathways with lush plant life and statues. In the south eastern part of the park is the Berlin Zoo. It is a quiet place in central Berlin. Tiergarten was originality built as a hunting area for the Electors of Brandenburg. King Fredrick II of Prussia decided to change the forest into a public park in 1742. The park was royal property until 1881, when it reverted to the city of Berlin.
