Chelsea Waterside Play Area (New York City, New York)

USA / New Jersey / Weehawken / New York City, New York
 park, interesting place, historic remains

Renovated in 2018 by Michael Van-Valkenburgh and MONSTRUM. There is a public restroom, soccer field and basketball court, as well as playground areas. The park features several repurposed architectural elements: Limestone cattle head sculptures incorporated into water features, reclaimed from historic meatpacking district business, New York Butchers’ Dressed Meat Company, whose building was demolished in 1991. Granite seating blocks were repurposed from Pier 54’s arch, the pier was the intended arrival point for the Titanic. A recent renovation added a water maze, and a custom-designed, multi-colored, 64-foot wooden slide in the shape of a Pipefish, one of many fish species that lives within Park waters.
