  • Site of the 1984 International Garden Festival. Land previously occupied by the Dingle Oil Terminal, Herculaneum Dock and a Landfill site, plus some land reclaimed from the river was cleared and a landscaped parkland was laid out containing feature/themed gardens including a japanese garden complete with ornamental pagoda. Outdoor arenas, a miniture railway, and a domed festival hall were also built here. Parts of the site were sold off for housing development after the festival and the remaining landscaped area remained as a park with the festival hall being used for exebitions, go-carting and a lazer combat maze. The site has remained empty for years and there have been many plans proposed for the redevelopment of the remaining land, including skyscraper developments, a Football stadium and comercial and retail units. To date all plans have failed to get off the ground and the site remains abandoned and in a delapidated state. After years of neglect the Festival hall was demolished and removed in 2007 along with many trees surrounding it.
  • In 2012 the site was re-furbished and the gardens were opened again to the public.
