Located in central Lithuania, covers area of 1507 km², borders on Russia. Divided into 12 elderships. Administrative centre - Jurbarkas, smaller city is Smaliinkai.
Jurbarkas firstly mentioned in 1259 when teutonic knights built they forst castle in Lithuania. Many archeological and cultural heritage remained, worth to mention castles near Nemunas river. Western municipality part is quite forested, te biggest forest is Karšuva forest. Part of municipality area is preserved by Viešvilė state reserve and Panemunės regional park. There are many rivers, the longest of them are Nemunas, Šešuvis, Mituva.
