Bradenton is a city and the county seat of Manatee County in the U.S. state of Florida. The city is set on the mainland along the bays of Florida's western coast, separated from the Gulf of Mexico by the outlying barrier islands of Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key. Bradenton is the largest Principal City of the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimated the city's 2007 population to be 53,471, and an metro population of 682,833, making it also the largest city within Manatee County. It has a total area of 14.44 sq mi (37.4 km2), of which 2.33 sq mi (6.0 km2) is over water. Much of its northern border is along the Manatee River.

Originally 'discovered' by Hernando De Soto at Shaw's Point in 1539, the area was first settled around 1842. The townspeople adopted the name in honor of Dr. Joseph Braden, whose nearby fort-like house was a refuge for early settlers during Native American attacks. The city of Bradenton incorporated in 1903.
