Established in 1978 as Moss Point Marine Shipyard and becoming a successful producer of small commercial craft and barges, the Moss Point Marine Shipyard was purchased by Trinity Industries in 1987 and began building US Government vessels in additon to is commercial order book.

Spun off from Trinity in 1996 and formed into part of VT Halter Marine, the Moss Point Marine Shipyard, also known as the Escatawpa Yard, is the primary small commercial vessel yard of VTHM's three Pascagoula-area shipyards. The yard has three launching ways for vessels up to 298ft, numerous fabrication shops and 1,150ft of steel sheet pile bulkhead pier space.
