St Lawrence Jewry (London) | church

United Kingdom / England / London / Gresham Street

Anglican church built by Christopher Wren, 1671.
The name comes from the fact that this was the Jewish quarter of London until the Expulsion of the Jews" by Edward I in 1290, under which all Jews were deported, converted or murdered in an astonishingly vicious act of racism. This was really just an excuse for the Crown to confiscate property and money.

  • Religion is just evil, causes more problems than good. I look forward to the day when science disproves any meaning of the word God....
  • Religion can and does do a lot of good in the right hands and with the right intentions but like anything it also has the potential to be used for ill. Granted, there are religous extremists, but these are always a minority and I would argue that most religious violence, persecution and hatred is a perversion of the morals and codes of the religion in question. Certainly, people are killed in the name of religion, but people are also killed in the name of postcodes. Obviously this does not mean that all people who have a postcode are evil and I don't see anyone rushing to ban them, instead, society tries to tackle the violent thugs who use them as an excuse for violence and a justification for their own prejudices.
