"Golemia Sipey" is a protected site with Ordinance № РД-471 from 11.07.2001 by the Ministry of Environment and Waters.
Unique identification code in the register of protected areas in Bulgaria: 148.
Area: 653.9 hectares.
Aims of the declaration:
1. Conservation of rare and protected plant and animal species, more specifically white-headed and Egyptian vultures, black stork, a colony of black heron, white-tailed buzzard, blue rock thrush, rock mason, Spur-thighed tortoise, and Hermann's tortoise;
2. Protection of the exceptional natural landscape of the valley around the river Arda.
