monument, gate
A ceremonial gate presented to the United Kingdom by African colonies in triubute to Queen Victoria. Completed around 1911 as part of the extensive Victoria memorial project the 'gate' has no portals. It consists of two columns, topped with statuary, adjacent to the Mall's sidewalks at the eastern approach to Victoria Memorial Circle. West Africa is recognized on the south column and South Africa on the north pillar.
