A criminally managed apartment complex, used to squeeze federal dollars from a mismanaged housing fund. Out of town investors stole millions from the federal government and the city of Columbus with false promises to renovate. In 2004 an ice storm severely damaged the dilapidated property and somone finally took notice. In the spring of 2007 demoliton was begun. Now we only need to find out what to do with the rats!

By November 2007 the place was leveled. What the future holds is still a mystery.

  • As of May 26, 2007 Greenbriar also know as "Uzzi Alley" was raised!!! Finally Columbus brought this blighted area to justice! It was an eye sore!
  • This was the first apartment complex I lived in as a youth...moved to "Chesterfield Apartments" as is was called in 1980. It was scary then. Harley bikers lined the streets and tough glances from strangers was the norm. You just got used to it and learned to be tough. I was 19 or 20 then. I only lived there 2-3 years. I shared my place with more roaches than I have seen in a lifetime....tried to exterminate...I wish I could have afforded to move. Scarey tales: I came home one night and the first floor apartment had its windows busted out. Blood covered the entire entryway of my building. I tip-toed through it to get home (3rd floor). Our doors were steel then, probably the only thing that allowed me to sleep at night. The day I moved, someone stole all my clothes from my car as I made one last trip back to my apartment. I never went back after that night. I never looked back until now. In closing, just wanted to say, that I am glad the complex was there....it allowed me to move out on my own and learn to take responsibility for myself. I think it should have been torn down though when I moved out in the 80's.
  • My grandparents lived there in the 70's and it was really nice. I wanted to visit it when I do my Memory Lane Tour of Ohio. I guess I will just have to keep it in my memories.
  • I lived in Greenbriar apartments also known as Woodland meadows as a youth. I found my first love in these apartments living here is a huge part of my childhood memory. I also had bad and good memory's here the point is . These apartments will always be in my memory
  • This is where my life got crazy gb was a crazy place to live as a kid u had to understand a lot growing up..... Still miss it tho it's the only place in the world the even seem real ... Sometimes those days where simple
  • Btw who was that ??
  • I lived at "Greenbriar Apartments" from summer 1992 until just after school was out in summer 1993. I hated this place. The black kids ganged up on the white kids and I suffered several violent attacks. I would get ganged up on by the black kids at school, being called "cracker" and other racist names, and the white principal at Broadleigh Elementary School would not do anything about it. This was one of the worst years of my life living at Greenbriar. Glad the place is closed down, it was a real s***hole. A ghetto in the textbook sense of the word. Saw someone die there too - shot by a cop. The dude ran right past me. Uzi Alley.
  • I lived at 371 E Virginialee Rd, cannot remember the apartment number...
  • Miss those days seen alot of crazy shit tho
  • Who was this
  • My friend and I worked at Chesterfield Apartments as teenagers groundskeepers (read: hedge trimmer and occasional lawnmowers) in 1973-74. It was my first job. The place was an unholy mess and part of our duties was to clean up abandoned apartments and clean out trash-filled drainage ditches. You would not believe the filth and the number of roaches! One morning driving to work we heard there had been a shooting there with a couple people killed. By the time we got to work the Columbus SWAT team was suiting up in the parking lot and they went in, threw tear gas and killed the shooter. At the end of the day our job was to sweep up the broken glass and tear gas residue, and mop up the blood. We were in the Dispatch photos the next day - I wore an odd tricorn hat like George Washington because I was a 70s-style freak. Our boss's name was Jeff and he was always racing around the complex in a brown Gremlin. The place was rank with drugs and poverty, although there were some old folks who probably had seen nicer day there. I can only imagine what happened in the 80s when cocaine came on the scene in a big way.
  • Lived at 392 N Virginia Lee 3 story brick white only apartments in 1953/54 and walked to Broadleigh Elementary. Where these torn down and part of the massive dirt filled lot I see on google earth?
  • I lived there when I was 8....now I'm 44....even tho some remember it as ghetto... I remember fun times running around the complex having a blast and walking to the Quick Check store to buy candy
