residence, LIGC - Long Island Gold Coast, Georgian (architecture)

Estate home designed c. 1914 by Trowbridge & Livingston in the Georgian Revival style for George S. Brewster {industrialist, financier, capitalist} on 126 acres of land. In addition to being an heir to Standard Oil fortune, Brewster served as director of Industrial Alcohol Corp., president of Provident Loan Society, and director of the Piping Rock Realty Corp. The estate was designed as a full-grown version of the 18th century southern plantation house "Westover"; Alfred Hopkins designed the outbuildings in 1916 and James Leal Greenleaf designed the formal landscapes.

Following the Brewster family, the estate was owned by the Fox Run Golf and Country Club as a 195 acre property. In 1983, they sold the main home and part of the land to Robert J. Meyer for $9m with the remainder of the property used as a course. In 1996, Meyer sold the house after being imprisoned for bank fraud in 1996. The Fox Run Golf and Country Club went out of business shortly thereafter. The home went into an advanced state of deterioration and vandalism until it was purchased by the Hoffman Foundation in 1997. The foundation undertook a comprehensive restoration led by Gold Coast historian Paul Mateyunas to restore the main home from 1997-2004.
