Vai is an encient town and has a long tradition of skilled weavers and learned Brahmins. Wai town is settled on the banks of river Krishna. This river originates from a holy place 'Mahabaleshwar' close by. Since ancient times, the civilisations progressed around water resources, Wai is a powerful example of ancient Indian water hervesting systems, called Ghat. A Ghat is an embarkment with safety walls for preventing the entry of flood water and steps to access the flowing water.
Wai has seven ghats. As rivers are revered as 'Mother' the gratitude towards uninturrepted water supply is expressed by celebrating a festival 'THE KRISHNABAI UTSAV'. Wai is famus for marvelous temples and a famous spot for Indian movie shootings.

Wai also known as Dakshin Kashi is a city in Satara District in the Maharashtra state of India. It is situated near Pune, on the banks of the Krishna river. It is famous for its temples and ghats (banks) on the Krishna river. The famous Dholya Ganapati temple is situated on its Ganapati Ghat. "Pradnya path Shala" and "Vishvakosh" are famous cultural institutions of Wai. The work to bring the knowledge/books in different languages in Marathi is done in Vishvakosh. |
