Two beds of bentonite each underlain by limestone and overlain by cemented volcanic ash were formed as an alteration product of volcanic ash. The beds strike N 10° to 30° E. and dip 40° E. Surface work has exposed bentonite in beds as much as 10 feet thick.
Two inclined shafts, one 15 and one 40 feet deep, and several open cuts comprise the workings. One hundred tons of material has been shipped for experimental purposes.
